New York Knicks president Leon Rose continues to add to his scouting department.

The New York Knicks have hired former Dallas Mavericks advanced scout Reginald “Reggie” Johnson, according to Empire Sports Media.

What this means: First, this report has not been confirmed by any of the usual newsbreakers who cover the Knicks. However, Alder Aldmo of Empire Sports Media has been on top of front office hires in the past. He was the first to report the team had hired database expert Kelsey Roberts.

Searching LinkedIn, there is a page with Reggie Johnson’s name attached to it, and his job title is listed as Pro Personnel Scout at New York Knicks.

If the news is true, Johnson would be yet another solid addition to the Knicks scouting department. Since taking over as president of the team, Leon Rose has made several hires to beef up his evaluation staff. The team hired college scouting guru Walt Perrin away from Utah, along with professional scouts Alex Kline, former Nets scout Frank Zanin, among others.

Who is Reggie Johnson? Johnson has been an advance scout for the Mavericks for 25 years, covering an incredible time for the organization that reached the NBA Finals in 2006 and won an NBA championship in 2011.

According to the Empire Media Sports report, Johnson is expected to evaluate NBA and G-League players for the Knicks. Most recently, he was responsible for scouting opponents in prep of games for the Mavericks.

Johnson played basketball, himself, for Southwest Baptist University where he was a two-time All-MIAA Conference selection.

What’s next for the Knicks? Believe it or not, we are only one month away from the 2020 NBA Draft. As Leon Rose has been busy hiring scouts, salary cap experts, and an entirely new coaching staff, incumbent general manager Scott Perry has been preparing for a draft unlike any in NBA history.
