Looking at who could join Tom Thibodeau’s coaching staff with the New York Knicks.

The New York Knicks’ long and arduous coaching search, which spanned eleven candidates and a month of interviews, came to its conclusion with the organization naming Tom Thibodeau, the franchise’s 31st head coach.

Thibodeau was the presumptive favorite for the job ever since Leon Rose was named President of Basketball Operations. After nearly five months of rumors suggesting that the Knicks job was his to lose, Thibodeau landed his dream gig.

Beating out a stalemate in contract negotiations and a late push from Jason Kidd, Tom Thibodeau has a lot to address regarding his coaching philosophy and the Knicks’ lackluster roster. However, one of the most pressing situations for Thibodeau is assembling a formidable coaching staff that encompasses a wide array of basketball minds that will be assets to him.

Nobody knows what the state of team workouts and scrimmages are for the eight NBA teams who missed the Orlando bubble. Considering the lack of information for what lies ahead for the Knicks, it is unlikely we hear about Thibodeau’s coaching staff until a decision is made regarding the delete eight teams.

The Knicks’ current assistant coaches, who were handpicked by David Fizdale for his staff, are still under contract with the team and would likely join Thibodeau in team workouts—albeit, with awkwardness as their future with the team is most likely over.

Despite the uncertainty of when Thibodeau will get his opportunity to coach the Knicks, rumors have swirled regarding potential assistants joining Thibodeau’s staff in New York. In addition to Thibodeau’s day-to-day bench mates, the Knicks are expected to have a significant number of player development coaches.

In this article, we look at the names who have been rumored to join Thibodeau in New York and what they can provide to the team, given their past experience.
