Potential Knicks free agent targets: Bryn Forbes, San Antonio Spurs

While Bryn Forbes is not the first name you would think of in terms of a defensive player to add to a Tom Thibodeau coached roster, he could be a relatively cheap option to add shooting to the backcourt.

Playing in his fourth season with the Spurs, Forbes regressed a bit off a career season in 2018-19 that saw him shoot 42.6% from downtown, good for 8th best in the league. However, his career 40% perimeter accuracy ranks 17th among active players. Even in a down year, this kid can shoot.

Forbes has played the majority of his time at shooting guard, but he can also play a little point and small forward. Where he plays on defense largely depends on where you can hide him.

By certain advanced metrics (see tweet above), Forbes was one of the worst defensive players in the league this year.

Signing the 27-year-old to a team-friendly deal would be to give the Knicks much-needed shooting in the backcourt, as well as a player who is used to playing under a structured system with Gregg Popovich.
