Potential trade targets with CAA connections: Devin Booker

Over the last few weeks, Devin Booker’s name has come up as a rumored target due to his affiliation with CAA. Booker earned his first All Star appearance this season. He’s continued to be a very explosive scorer as he’s become a triple-threat playmaker. Booker is the franchise player for the Phoenix Suns. The Suns are 26-39 as they entered the bubble. The 26 wins represent the highest win total in Booker’s career.

Just like the Knicks, Booker hasn’t been able to achieve any semblance of stability or success with the Suns. In his five seasons in Phoenix, Booker has missed the playoffs each year and endured 5 head coaches and over 60 new players. Sure, Booker signed a rookie max extension last year, but there comes a point where he’d like to make it to the playoffs.

The Suns, to their credit, assembled a solid core around Booker consisting of Ricky Rubio, Mikal Bridges, Kelly Oubre, & DeAndre Ayton. The mix of veterans and young players helped provide some support for their star guard. However, none of the successes in Phoenix can outshine the bright lights in New York.

To be clear, any trade for Booker will require a massive swap of players and assets. RJ Barrett would likely be the core of any Devin Booker trade. The Suns would probably ask for Frank Ntilikina, Kevin Knox, 1st round picks, and even Mitchell Robinson if they’d like to be greedy. The Knicks would have no choice, but to pony up to acquire him. However, even the lineup of assets the Knicks can provide may not be enough to entice the Suns to trade him. If it even was attainable, would the Knicks be able to achieve more greener pastures than what Booker’s dealt with so far?

The questions above make any Devin Booker trade highly unlikely. Certainly Knicks fans can dream and hope for the best, even if unrealistic.
