Add another local product to the list of NBA draft prospects who have interviewed with the New York Knicks.
The New York Knicks are making sure to do their homework on draft prospects in their backyard. According to Adam Zagoria, the Knicks had a Zoom meeting with Seton Hall forward Sandro Mamukelashvili.
The Georgian-American player is the third Seton Hall Pirate that we have learned has met with the Knicks’ scouting staff. New York also interviewed guard Myles Powell and big man Romaro Gill from Seton Hall.
Mamukelashvili is testing the waters for the 2020 NBA Draft by not hiring an agent, which allows him to return to college for his senior season if he decides his draft prospects are limited.
Sandro Mamukelashvili is coming off a strong season with Seton Hall.
The 6-foot-11 forward averaged 11.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during his junior season in the Big East. He also connected on 43.4% of his three-pointers, while attempting 2.7 per game.
Shortly before the college basketball season was shutdown due to the coronavirus, Mamukelashvili tipped in an inbound pass as time expired to beat 21st ranked Butler in a miraculous win. The buzzer beater kept Seton Hall atop the Big East standings at the time.
While Mamukelashvili projects as a modern big man who can both shoot and pass the basketball, it seems very possible he ends up returning to school next year as he appears to be a long-shot to be selected in the draft.
The Knicks have three picks in the upcoming NBA Draft, now scheduled for October 16. Beyond their lottery selection, they will also pick in the late first round and early second round. All three picks seemingly a reach on a fringe prospect like Mamukelashvili.
Besides the Knicks, the Seton Hall forward has interviewed with 19 other teams.
