Unrestricted free agents with CAA connections: Allen Crabbe

Allen Crabbe is represented by Aaron Mintz at CAA. Crabbe’s more notoriously known for his whopping contract after the Trailblazers matched the Nets offer sheet of 4-years/$75 million in the summer of 2016. It’s fair to say now that Crabbe could never meet the expectations of that contraction.

During the first two years of the deal, Crabbe excelled as a role-playing shooting guard who could make a lot of threes at a high percentage. That came to a halt midway through the 2018-19 season when he underwent surgery on his right knee.

Crabbe played 37 games during the shortened 2019-20 campaign with the Atlanta Hawks and the Timberwolves before Minnesota released him. The California native hasn’t fully recovered from knee surgery last season, but there’s hope that rest can be his best medicine.

Crabbe’s calling card is his three-point proficiency, more than the other areas of his game. It’s worth noting that Kenny Atkinson, now in the running to be the next Knicks head coach, helped Crabbe improve on the defensive end while the two were in Brooklyn.

If the Knicks acquired Crabbe, they would be hoping they could unleash the player we saw from 2016-19 and provide the floor spacing that Wayne Ellington and Reggie Bullock were unable to provide on a consistent basis.
