Re-draft of the 2007 NBA Draft for the Knicks: Wilson Chandler

Knicks Pick: 1st Round, Pick 23

Actual player selected: Wilson Chandler

Isiah Thomas did something right in his tenure with the Knicks?

Isiah Thomas’s selection of Wilson Chandler was one of the best value picks the team has made in a very long time. Coming out of DePaul as a sophomore, Chandler was a raw prospect with great athleticism and strength.

He had an up and down rookie season, where he averaged 7.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 35 games. However, when Mike D’Antoni took the job as the Knicks’ coach, Chandler flourished and became a fascinating young prospect for the team.

His role expanded significantly, and he averaged 14.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in his two full seasons under D’Antoni. Before being traded to Denver for Carmelo Anthony in 2010-2011, Chandler had the best year of his career, averaging 16.4 points and 5.9 rebounds a night.

He was one of Denver’s main assets in the trade and had several solid seasons for the team. Aaron Afflalo was the only player who could have made an argument, but Chandler was the better player and played at a higher level longer than Afflalo.
