3 players whose next NBA game could be as members of the Knicks
Potential future Knicks player: Davis Bertans
While Davis Bertans was invited to return to play in Orlando with the Washington Wizards, the sharp-shooting power forward has decided to sit out as a preventive measure. The 27-year-old has recovered from two ACL injuries and he isn’t looking to take any risks with a possible long-term contract on the horizon.
Bertans earned $7 million this past season and is hoping to earn a lot more on the open market, although it’s hard to predict what free agency will look like in the aftermath of a league year impacted both by a partnership crisis with China and the coronavirus pandemic.
While the Knicks haven’t been officially linked to Bertans, they are reportedly looking for a forward who can shoot the basketball, and he certainly can do that. A career 41.1% shooter from downtown, Bertans converted on 42.4% of his three-point shots this season, while taking a voluminous 8.7 attempts per game.
The Knicks will have plenty of cap room to attract a new Latvian shooter to play at Madison Square Garden next season, but the Wizards have his Bird Rights so they can ultimately offer him the largest contract. If he isn’t priced too high, he could be an intriguing addition by Leon Rose.
