Knicks coaching candidates: Will Hardy

Will Hardy would represent a fresh approach for the Knicks. The 32-year-old assistant has worked his way to the Spurs bench after starting in the organization as an intern. He has spent the past four seasons as an assistant and ten seasons within the San Antonio organization. Before joining the sideline, he was the team’s video coordinator.

Hardy has head coaching experience from his time as the Spurs summer league coach in Utah from 2015-2018 and in Las Vegas from 2017-2018. He also has international experience, working on Team USA’s coaching staff during the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Hardy joins Ime Udoka as the second candidate with ties to Gregg Popovich and the Spurs who is being considered for the Knicks job. While many Knicks fans would like to see Becky Hammon gain an interview, it appears she will not meet with the team, per Marc Berman of the New York Post.

After being accused of recycling old names for the position (i.e. Tom Thibodeau and Mike Woodson), Hardy is a relative unknown outside of NBA circles, but seems well-respected and obviously comes from a strong coaching tree.
