Why Knicks should consider reuniting with Langston Galloway: 2) Defensive Capabilities
While not an elite defender, Langston Galloway has proven to be willing to buy in on that end of the floor. That’s an appealing trait for a New York Knicks team that’s looking to improve on defense, but doesn’t necessarily have veteran leaders in that regard.
Galloway could fill that role as a player who not only knows what it means to buy in, but understands the pressure of defending in the orange and blue.
It must be noted that Galloway actually took a statistical step back on defense in 2019-20, likely due to his increased role on offense. That’s admittedly concerning, as his defense would be a significant part of why he’d be worth considering.
It was a rather strange season in Detroit, however, as Blake Griffin and Reggie Jackson missed a vast majority of the season due to injury, and Andre Drummond was traded.
With the right coach in his ear, Galloway can return to what made him something of a fan favorite during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. He proved that he’s willing to compete on that end of the floor, and should have an easier time doing so with a more defined role on offense.
Compounded by the fact that Galloway is perceived as a healthy influence in the locker room, he could be an excellent addition to a Knicks team in need of leadership.
