New York Knicks great Patrick Ewing has returned home from the hospital after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

Some good news on Memorial Day: New York Knicks Hall-of-Famer Patrick Ewing has returned home from the hospital following his diagnosis with Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The news was revealed by his son on social media on Monday.

"“I want to thank all of the doctors and hospital staff for taking care of my father during his stay, as well as everyone who has reached out with thoughts and prayers to us and since his diagnosis,” Patrick Ewing Jr. posted on Monday. “My father is now home and getting better. We’ll continue to watch his symptoms and follow the CDC guidelines. I hope everyone continues to stay safe and protect yourselves and your loved ones.”"

New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing revealed his diagnosis last week.

Ewing revealed he had tested positive for coronavirus on a social media post on Friday. The head coach of Georgetown men’s basketball program wanted to let people know the seriousness of the virus and that anybody could be affected. According to an accompanying statement from Georgetown University, nobody else on the basketball team has tested positive for the virus.

The 57-year-old had been isolating at a local hospital in Washington, DC. It is unclear when he learned about his diagnosis.

Several people came out on social media with words of encouragement for the legendary big man following his health public disclosure, including his former teammate Charles Oakley, who had recently made critical remarks about their time playing together.

Ewing played 15 seasons for the New York Knicks, before ending his career with the Seattle Supersonics. Many Knicks fans look at the date of his trade as the marking point for when the franchise took a leftward turn toward irrelevance. Of course, the timing also coincides with the ownership of James Dolan, who also tested positive for coronavirus.

As the NBA tries to navigate the complicated landscape of returning to play amid the pandemic, it is good to hear the Big Fella is recovering well. While the New York Governor is allowing professional sports to reopen training camps in the state, the Knicks are still awaiting word from the NBA on whether they will be required to complete the 2019-20 season, considering their place in the standings.
