NY Knicks: Grading every Steve Mills transaction, Part 1
Signed Trey Burke
GRADE: B-
You could write a novel on the trials and tribulations of New York Knicks point guards. The franchise has been searching for a bona-fide point guard for two decades, with few moments of relief.
After adding Trey Burke to their G-League squad to start the season, the small point guard was signed in January of 2018 to add dribble penetration and offensive firepower to the guard position.
It was hard not to like Burke’s story. A failed lottery pick, he paid his dues in the development league, working with Mike Miller at Westchester, and making his way back to the NBA, where he looked like an impressive find over the final months of the 2017-18 season.
Ultimately, Burke’s poor defensive play and limited facilitation skills curtailed his sudden rise to NBA prominence. He was later traded in the mega Kristaps Porzingis trade.
