New York Knicks: Five options at center in 2020 NBA Draft
Isaiah Stewart, Washington Huskies
Isaiah Stewart is a high-reward type of prospect, albeit with some risk involved with his upside. He’s an undersized center who struggles to score against length and doesn’t do the best job of defending the perimeter, which could scare general managers away.
Stewart is also a powerful player in both build and strength, however, with an expanding offensive game and clear value as an interior defender.
Stewart benefits from entering an NBA that isn’t exactly overrun by 7’0″ centers, and has the interior prowess to thrive regardless. He won’t be bullied in the post by bigger scorers, and does an excellent job of contesting shots by taller scorers.
Stewart is also a productive shot-blocker at 2.1 per game, which suggests he could help maintain an interior presence on defense when Robinson is off the floor.
Offensively, Stewart converted 77.4 percent of his 6.2 free throw attempts per game. He’s also expanding his range to beyond the three-point line on his jump shot, which would go a long way towards helping him carve out an offensive role as an undersized 5.
If Stewart can become a sharpshooting big who can defend the post and block shots, it’d be easy for the New York Knicks to plug him in as a key rotational piece.
