New York Knicks: Five worst coaches in team history
1) Isiah Thomas (2006 – 2008)
You created this mess, now fix it!
That was essentially the challenge Isiah Thomas took on when he walked down from the executive offices of Madison Square Garden to coach a Knicks roster that he had constructed as team president.
While Thomas showed a ten game improvement over Larry Brown’s 23-59 finish in 2004-05, he would match the Hall-of-Fame coach’s dismal performance in 2007-08, winning only 23 games before being fired. Over two seasons on the bench, he posted a 56-108 record.
I remember going to the Garden when the “Fire Isiah” chants would rain down from the blue seats. Few people outside of James Dolan symbolize the frustration of Knicks fans over the past two decades more than Isiah Thomas.
Unlike most coaches, Isiah was not only responsible for his coaching performance, but also had nobody to blame but himself for the players on the roster. He is the worst coach in team history because the terrible results are all on him.
