5) Jeff Hornacek (2016 – 2018)

Jeff Hornacek starts out our list, landing fifth. Do I think he was a great coach? Absolutely not. But is he a terrible coach? Eh, maybe more like below average. He showed promise during his first season coaching the Suns in 2013-14, but then things slowly fell apart. The Knicks decided to catch the crashing wave and he finished 60-104 (.366) in New York.

Perhaps under different circumstances, he would have performed better, but the results are the results. The former Utah Jazz player was fired after two seasons on the Knicks bench, learning his fate in the wee hours of the night at Westchester County Airport.

With Phil Jackson gone, and Steve Mills taking over as team president, it was expected that Hornacek would be let go and replaced by someone new. Keep reading the list to see where the guy who replaced Hornacek ranks.

Hornacek struggled with his rotations, and caught the ire, justifiably or not, of Knicks players up-and-down the roster: Kristaps Porzingis reportedly cursed him out in practice; he got into a shoving match with Joakim Noah that led to the overpriced free agent signing being banished from the team; and even the affable Kyle O’Quinn was caught on camera screaming profanities at Hornacek.
