Allonzo Trier

There was a hot minute when Knicks fans were figuring out how the team could secure Allonzo Trier‘s future without the benefits of a rookie scale contract that would have kept him locked in with the team for at least four seasons.

Turning an impressive stint with the Knicks on a two-way contract into a NBA deal, Trier has regressed, or given more time, shown himself to be the type of player that he always projected to be, high usage, tunnel vision, poor defender.

The Knicks were 8.3 points worse with Trier on the floor this season. That’s pretty bad for a team that is already pretty bad. Trier’s name came up in trade rumors this past season. New York would have reportedly moved him in a deal for D’Angelo Russell.

As a player with less than three years of NBA service, he is a restricted free agent next offseason, but it seems unlikely the Knicks would try hard to keep him on their roster. Instead, they can save the cap space to add players in free agency or via trade.
