Pro: Finding A Playmaker

The New York Knicks need a point guard who can get the offense into its sets and simplify the game for the younger players. Acquiring Victor Oladipo wouldn’t eradicate that need, but it’d certainly bring the Knicks closer to filling it.

Oladipo is known for his scoring and defense, but he also happens to be one of the better passers that the shooting guard position has to offer.

Oladipo finished 2017-18 with averages of 23.1 points and 4.3 assists per game on a slash line of .477/.371/.799. His production and efficiency declined in 2018-19, but he actually increased his output in the facilitating area of the game during that injury-plagued campaign.

Oladipo upped his assists per 36 minutes metric from 4.6 to 5.8 while decreasing his turnovers from 3.1 to 2.6 on that same scale.

Oladipo may not run your offense, but he’s proven to be more than capable of finding the open man and shouldering a lion’s share of the ball-handling duties. He’s capable of running the pick and roll, and has been one of the most electric transition playmakers in the NBA in recent years.

If the Knicks commit to finding a point guard who can feature in the facilitating role, Oladipo could diversify the offense with his high-level passing and court vision from the 2-spot.
