A Humble Superstar

2. His pregame routine with Landry Fields

Before each game, Jeremy Lin and Landry Fields proved two kids from really good schools can be cool on the basketball court, too. The Harvard and Stanford alums had an elaborate handshake that gained attention from the media and fans. In the nerdy routine, Lin would act as if he was flipping through a book and putting on reading glasses. Not exactly what you would expect to get you amped up for an NBA basketball game. Lin, a devout Christian, later explained he was pretending to go through the Bible.

I purposefully put Jeremy Lin’s handshake with teammate Landry Fields as a moment next to Lin being featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in back-to-back weeks to highlight how Lin was the humble superstar.

Taking over the sports world, it would have been easy to let his instant fame go to his head, but Lin remained a popular player among his teammates, and true to himself throughout the crazy ride that brought him incredible fame overnight.

After writing out these ten moments, it makes me want to jump in a time machine and return to February 2012 when we could be around people and feel good about being a Knicks fan again.
