New York Knicks: Ten forgotten moments from Linsanity
Off court moments
10. Jeremy Lin was living on a couch at the beginning of Linsanity
As Jeremy Lin started to become a household name across America and the global sports world, he was living in a one-bedroom apartment with his brother, sleeping on the couch. Playing his first few weeks without a guaranteed contract, the point guard from Harvard wasn’t ready to cash in on his success after a few incredible games. The night before his breakout performance against the Nets, Lin’s brother had a friend in town, so the point guard spent the night on teammate Landry Fields‘ couch. After his newfound success, the couch-hopper eventually found an apartment at Trump Tower in White Plains.
I remember reading this at the time, and it was just incredible to think how someone can become so famous, so quickly, and still follow a routine similar to your college roommate. It’s easy to assume professional athletes are instantly rich, but for Lin, his time with the Knicks truly set him up for the rest of his life.
9. Linsanity puns
Remember when Lin puns were the hottest thing on social media? As Knicks fans took on a Linfatuation with the Asian point guard, you couldn’t check Twitter without seeing someone taking advantage of the Linning formula of combining every possible word with his pun-worthy namesake.
Speaking of puns, restaurants all over Manhattan took advantage of the Linsanity craze to create new menu items, such as Jeremy Lin-Mint milkshakes at Shake Shack and Lintinis at Artica Bar & Grill.
