New York Knicks: Five options at shooting guard in 2020 NBA Draft
Anthony Edwards, Georgia Bulldogs
LaMelo Ball has garnered the most hype amongst fans, but Anthony Edwards has been pegged as the potential No. 1 overall draft pick. The Georgia Bulldogs star has a prototypical build and the potential to be a three-level scorer if developed properly.
The college-level statistics don’t paint the most encouraging of pictures, but the film suggests Edwards could be a high-level two-way player in the NBA.
Edwards is more of a slasher than a shooter at this stage, as his 29.4 percent shooting from three-point range implies. He’s confident off the bounce, however, and has shown the ability to consistently knock down shots when his feet are set.
If the Knicks believe that they can help Edwards develop a more consistent rhythm in his form and approach to shooting, he could evolve into a borderline knockdown player.
The key for the New York Knicks is that Edwards has the length and power to potentially defend all three perimeter positions. That would make it significantly easier to play him alongside RJ Barrett, who has the same potential on the defensive end of the floor.
Edwards may or may not be available when the Knicks get to draft their next cornerstone, but if he is, it would behoove the franchise to give him serious consideration.
