With the front office reconstruction still in process, Leon Rose will hire former Cleveland Cavaliers executive Brock Aller to a high-ranking role with the New York Knicks.

When the New York Knicks hired Leon Rose as team president, the expectation was that more changes would follow. Rose has maintained that he will be patient in his evaluations of the pieces the Knicks have on hand, but those alterations have begun to arrive.

Nothing is finalized, but it appears as though New York is looking to a former NBA champion executive for guidance as the offseason rapidly approaches.

There are a number of positions that could undergo changes during the offseason, including head coach and general manager. The incumbents are genuine candidates to return, but speculation is mounting that Rose will bring in his own staff.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, that process will begin with Rose hiring former Cleveland Cavaliers executive Brock Aller for a high-ranking role in the organization.

"Brock Aller, a former Cleveland Cavaliers executive, will be a high-ranking basketball official and the chief strategist for Knicks president Leon Rose, sources have told SNY. Details of Aller’s title with the team are still being worked through.A deal is expected to be completed within the next week or so."

Aller may not be a household name, but this is a hire that should intrigue Knicks fans as far as the future of the organization is concerned.

Aller was the cap specialist for the Cavaliers during a run in which the franchise won its first-ever NBA title. He helped Cleveland navigate difficult terrain as far as salaries were concerned, including the maneuvering that enabled the franchise to acquire LeBron James.

Creativity on the salary cap front is valued in any front office, but it could be of exceptional value for a New York team that’s long struggled with lackluster contracts.

With an appealing market and a vaunted venue, an individual who knows how to both recruit talent and work the cap would be a great asset.

It remains unclear what role Aller will play in the Knicks’ front office. It’s too soon to speculate how this will impact current Knicks general manager Scott Perry, but the addition of a capologist who has a championship pedigree is enticing.

It’s too soon to know what this will lead to, but these type of moves imply the Knicks are closer to shedding their poor reputation than in recent years.

Slowly but surely, the New York Knicks are making progress.
