David Robinson

David Robinson is widely regarded as one of the greatest centers in NBA history. It’s easy to see why, as The Admiral has a résumé that includes two championships, a league MVP award, Defensive Player of the Year honors, and 10 All-NBA selections.

That makes David Robinson an obvious choice for whom New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson should study, but there’s one skill in specific that he should focus on: Running the floor.

Robinson was an athletic anomaly, showcasing the ability to play above the rim on both ends of the floor. That includes the aforementioned ability to run the floor, as Robinson’s long strides and sound fundamentals made him an all-time great transition finisher.

Robinson has the potential to be the same type of player in that regard, as he has similar athleticism, if not an advanced level of it.

Aspiring to be a Defensive Player of the Year who could score from every angle of the court is certainly a wise ideal. That isn’t going to be an overnight process, but starting with his ability to run the floor would make his offensive game significantly more effective.

From there, it’d be a matter of acquiring the skills that helped Robinson become one of the 10 greatest centers in the history of the NBA.
