The New York Knicks have been linked to Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell. Before going all-in on a potential trade, however, New York must weigh their options.
This could be the moment that the New York Knicks have been waiting for the entire James Dolan era. Not only does New York have a rumored opportunity to trade for an All-Star, but it could acquire a high-level player who hasn’t even reached their prime.
For as enticing as it may be to go all-in on trading for Donovan Mitchell, the Knicks must first weigh the pros and cons of such a decision.
The mania all began when Shams Charania, Sam Amick, and Tony Jones of The Athletic reported that there was a rift between Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. Per usual, the Knicks were immediately mentioned as a potential candidate to attempt a trade for Mitchell.
It’s somewhat poetic, as Knicks fans have long bemoaned the fact that former team president Phil Jackson didn’t select Mitchell at the 2017 NBA Draft.
Mitchell is certainly a tempting player as far as pursuing a potential trade is concerned. He’s less than three full seasons into his NBA career and is already regarded as one of the best shooting guards that the Association has to offer.
As such, the Knicks would be silly to not at least explore the possibility of acquiring a 23-year-old star who’s yet to enter his prime. However, there are also potential drawbacks that must be considered before moving forward.
The question is: What exactly are the pros and cons of the New York Knicks pursuing a trade for Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell?
