Pro: Three-Point Shooting

The New York Knicks have made strides towards building a roster that’s at least average from behind the arc. It did so by signing perimeter players Reggie Bullock and Wayne Ellington in free agency, as well as stretch forwards Marcus Morris and Bobby Portis.

Unfortunately, the shooting from the wings is not complemented by any form of consistency in the backcourt—a plus in the, “Trade for Rozier,” column.

Frank Ntilikina is currently shooting 32.1 percent from beyond the arc—and that’s the best mark of any of the Knicks’ featured guards. RJ Barrett checks in at 32.0 percent, Dennis Smith Jr. is converting at a clip of 29.6 percent, and Elfrid Payton rounds the unit out at 20.3 percent.

Terry Rozier, on the other hand, is a career 37.1 percent three-point shooter who’s converting at a clip of 40.7 percent during the 2019-20 regular season.

2019-20 makes for Rozier’s third consecutive season above both 100 three-point field goals made and 35.3 percent shooting from distance. He’s averaging 2.7 three-point field goals made this season, which ranks in the Top 25 in the NBA.

Of those 25 players, Rozier is one of just nine who’s currently shooting better than 40 percent—a testament to how dangerous he truly is from three-point range.

It’s also a clear example of how helpful a player with his skill set would be to a backcourt that’s in desperate need of a sharpshooter, let alone a guard who can merely convert efficiently.
