The New York Knicks watched their two game winning streak come to an end in their 112-104 loss to the Utah Jazz.
Since the start of February, the New York Knicks have gone 5-7. Nothing to brag about, but it did take this same team 25 games until they picked up their first 5 wins of the season. It’s important to note the progress taken by Mike Miller since taking over for David Fizdale.
Several players stood out during the New York Knicks winning streak. RJ Barrett showed his superstar potential with a 27 point, 5 rebound and 5 assist performance against the Houston Rockets. In the win, prior against the Chicago Bulls, the rookie finished with 19 points on 8/10 shooting.
Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson finished both victories with double-doubles as well, helping the Knicks string together a few wins. Against the Bulls Robinson posted his best game of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes, avoiding foul trouble the entire game.
It’s also important to note that despite the losses piling up the New York Knicks are still playing competitive basketball. 4 of the teams’ last 5 losses have come by less than 10 points. In last night’s defeat Randle and point guard Elfrid Payton both showed why Leon Rose should keep them around.
Randle carried the New York Knicks with 32 points shooting an efficient 12 for 21 from the field. Randle ended the game with 11 boards notching his 4th straight double-double
In his first game receiving major minutes since his return from injury Elfrid Payton has put together an all-round performance. In 28 minutes, Payton finished the game with 20 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Health has hindered Payton but when on the floor the guard always shines.
The recent Chris Paul rumors for the New York Knicks means one thing; anything is possible under the Leon Rose regime. With change coming in the off-season, it’s refreshing to watch the current roster put together some fun games to watch. Mike Miller and other Knicks are showing why they should be around next season.
