DeMarcus Cousins

It’s no secret the past few years haven’t been kind to DeMarcus Cousins. After signing a 1 year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers in the off-season DeMarcus Cousins suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. His third major injury in 18 months.

There was hope that Cousins would be ready for a playoff run but with the Lakers releasing DeMarcus Cousins to acquire Markieff Morris, it appears Boogie will have to wait till next season to play again. Boogie already rushed back from injury once with Warriors and we know that did not turn out well.

Regardless of injury history there are two major reasons why the New York Knicks should try to pick up DeMarcus Cousins. Looking at Cousin’s last two contracts it’s guaranteed that the center wont to sign.

The Warriors paid Boogie $5.3 million for one year while the Lakers only paid $3.5 million for DeMarcus Cousins last offseason. Money won’t be the issue when Leon Rose and Scott Perry discuss Cousins, it will be his injury history.

Before Cousin’s run of bad luck, he was a top 15 player in the NBA. From 2014-2018, Boogie averaged 25.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists a game while being named to the All-Star game in each of those seasons.

In the 30 games DeMarcus Cousins did play with the Golden State Warriors in his return from injury he did impress. Cousins averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists while posting the second best field goal percentage of his career.

The reward far outweighs the risk in DeMarcus Cousins’ case. Even if the New York Knicks have to give Cousins 10 million for one season (this way the Heat and Lakers will back off) you have the chance at getting an All Star center. If Cousins doesn’t pan out then he is off the books for next year.
