Allonzo Trier: The Forgotten Jewel Of New York
By Oscar Perez
The most logical answer would be a poor performance, but it is difficult to evaluate that aspect with so few minutes of play.
The other option is that Trier needs to be a more complete player. We know what he is capable of on the offensive side, but we cannot deny defensively he has much to improve. In reality he is not the only player on the Knicks who needs to improve defensively, but a very valid question is if Allonzo’s level of play is not enough to be in the rotation, why not assign him to Westchester as the team has done with Ignas Brazdeikis?
Talking about G-League, one of the most concerning things about Trier’s situation is that even Kadeem Allen, a player from the Westchester Knicks (two-way contract) has more minutes of play than he does.
The reason why the Knicks have given Allonzo Trier so few opportunities this season is still unknown, and with the trade deadline around the corner, the future of Allonzo Trier is uncertain. On one hand, he could be part of some trade package, but if Trier stays on the team, and depending on what/if any players get shipped away, he could have more minutes in the final part of the season.
Unfortunately for him and all his followers, the only thing left is to wait for decisions to be made, of course, always wishing that whatever happens will be the best for this player who has certainly left his mark on the Big Apple.
