The New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers will play on New Year’s Day. A look at the odds and injuries for this matchup.

Opening 2020, the New York Knicks will face the Portland Trail Blazers at home. Expect a red-hot Madison Square Garden crowd, who will welcome a team on a two-game winning streak and be ready for another interesting 48 minutes of basketball.

After David Fizdale’s departure, the Knicks finished 2019 at 5-6. While still a losing record, it marked an improvement over the four wins prior and zero winning streaks, which New York already has two of under interim coach Mike Miller.

The most recent win came against the depleted Washington Wizards, who were missing Bradley Beal and a chunk of the roster due to injury. The Knicks managed their ninth victory of the season, and will bring momentum into the new year against the Blazers and an old favorite.

This is Carmelo Anthony’s latest return to MSG. He came back as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017-18. Now, he is with Portland after signing in mid-November.

The fans will serenade the ex-Knick, undoubtedly. Few chances may exist after this, especially if it becomes Anthony’s final NBA season.

Otherwise, the task at hand is containing Anthony, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, the three of whom comprise a potent trio. Limiting them is imperative, as well as finding more strong performances from Julius Randle and Marcus Morris, the former of which has three consecutive 30-point games on his résumé.
