The New York Knicks will start their Western Conference road trip against the Portland Trail Blazers. A look at the odds and injuries for Tuesday’s matchup.

With 72 more hours and a long plane ride to digest the weekend’s events, the New York Knicks finally have another game to play. On Tuesday, Dec. 10, they will head to the Moda Center to face the Portland Trail Blazers.

Only four days since the Knicks fired coach David Fizdale, the fallout has continued with Mike Malone’s promotion and the talk of president Steve Mills’ job status. Having a 4-19 record doesn’t help, either, and this game against an underachieving Blazers team could make New York the second 20-loss team of 2019-20.

Carmelo Anthony joined Portland in November after not garnering NBA interest for a full year. Averaging 31.8 minutes per game, he’s taken a significant role quickly for an ailing team, that needs any scoring help it can get. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum are still around, but their depth already lacked before Rodney Hood went down with a season-ending Achilles injury, so Anthony’s presence is more necessary than ever.

The season is still somewhat young, but a 9-15 record has the Blazers outside of the Western Conference’s playoff picture. Playing a struggling Knicks team gives them the chance for a turnaround.

The Knicks just need to compete at both ends of the floor and show effort. They flashed as much against the Pacers, despite losing yet another game, so could Tuesday’s game be a breakthrough?

Despite Portland’s record, they are significant favorites over the Knicks. That’s what happens with three All-Stars on the same team, including a backcourt that could overrun RJ Barrett and the point guards early and often.
