3. Tyronn Lue

Seeking a big-name coaching option for the New York Knicks who’s still in the game? Here’s one.

Tyronn Lue has the resume to take over anywhere he wants. Leading the Cleveland Cavaliers in parts of four seasons, the ex-player walked out with a championship ring in 2016 and three NBA Finals appearances. That alone will draw the eye of Knicks fans who want an established name.

Also to his resume, Lue has coached LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving. He has the experience with the biggest names in basketball, so the New York spotlight might not be the most polarizing, even if the team still can’t draw big names to Madison Square Garden.

Along with that, Lue was only fired amid Cleveland’s change of direction after LeBron James left for the Los Angeles Lakers. The 2018-19 record began at 0-6, but it was indicative of the roster, not the coach.

Lue interviewed for the Lakers’ job earlier this year, setting up a reunion with LeBron, only to fall apart at the last minute. So he clearly has interest in returning to coaching.

This is also different from the Knicks taking a second chance on a head coach as they did with Fizdale. The background is there as a successful leader, and as a current assistant to Clippers coach Doc Rivers, he is only gaining more experience from the bench.
