What should New York Knicks fans be thankful for this holiday?

Earlier this year, I wrote, “The New York Knicks Have the Best Fans in the World.” Right after that, it was upsetting to hear the Garden boo one of its young players and cheer for an opposing team’s player. It was the Celtics game, and they were cheering for Tacko Fall, while Dennis Smith Jr. received jeers.

Are these the same fans? After this 4-13 start to the season, are the fans justified in the booing and the chanting to “Fire Fizdale“? Looking at the record, what should New York fans be thankful for this Thanksgiving? They’ve been beaten by a team that lost eight straight games. Are there any thankful fans?

I took to social media once again to see how some fans feel about the Knicks’ current state and to see if I could find any fans that are grateful. I went to some of the Knicks’ pages on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

This article does not include the feelings and comments of all Knicks’ fans, just those who spend the time to discuss, argue and sometimes cheer their team on social media.

On Coach David Fizdale:

There was actually some encouraging words about Coach. After the Spurs loss, several on social media felt like that loss was completely Fizdale’s fault. Surprisingly, there were those who still have faith in their coach.

"Sal B: I’m grateful that we have a management team that acknowledges the needs and patience that this team be given. They have set the table with rookies and veterans that play hard without hurting the team’s options for next year. The future looks brighter because of their diligent work  and decision making."

On the team:

There were no really harsh words for the team and RJ Barrett in particular. The Frank haters have calmed themselves in light of his great defensive work as of late. The murmurs have mostly been about the guys on the bench and why they are not playing. The gratitude outweighed the grumbling:

"Restrepo S.: Right now I’d say I’m thankful for the effort.Restrepo S.: Right now I’d say I’m thankful for the effort."

"Debbie C: Thankful for RJ and Mitch my favorite homegrown Knicks. I’m thankful for Morris, my favorite free agent signing because he isn’t playing games with these fake bullies – hi Embiid. I’m also thankful for my G-League Knicks in Iggy and Wooten. Lastly, I’m thankful for Perry he is doing the best he can, with trying to change the culture that was left behind by other folks."

"Michael C., Sr.: I’m thankful for a new beginning from getting free agents and a young core to build something with. For not just giving in to 2K players (max players) and just trade players away to see them blossom somewhere else…"

"Jacinto H.: I’m thankful that they are playing with Heart and Compassion. Not afraid to go toe to toe (so far) with the good teams. I said years ago that if the Knicks only had to play three quarters, they would be unstoppable!"

Of course, these are not all the Knicks’ fans. These are fans that are always positive about the team even when they’re screaming at them. As Fizdale says, you have “til midnight, then on to the next game.” he fans are very much the same way.

They’re not ready to give up on their team, and they didn’t think twice about what they were thankful for. I just hope the team hears them. They deserve their best efforts.
