New York Knicks: Revisiting RJ Barrett’s Rookie of the Year odds
Updated rookie odds
The Knicks signed most of their free agents to a one-year contract, with a team option in the second year. This makes the players highly valuable for some contenders looking to add an extra piece for the playoff push, and New York has plenty of assets that can be traded away this season
If these potential trades open up Barrett’s minutes as well as his usage percentage, he will definitely have a shot at the title.
NBA awards are highly driven by narratives and story-lines. The Knicks are projected to be one of the worst teams in the NBA. If Barrett can replicate Luka Doncic’s rookie season where he basically becomes the point forward (wouldn’t be surprised with the Knicks’ current group of point guards) and win maybe 35-45 games, he can have a chance.
So here’s the checklist of how to win the Rookie of the Year award:
- Playing enough games (50 games minimum)
- High usage rate or touches (low efficiency and team record is okay)
- NBA storyline/narrative
Barrett will probably hit one or two of these but with the high speculations of the team changing the roster mid-season, he still should have the second-highest odds to win the Rookie of the Year award. Here are the new odds based on my findings:
There is still a pool of players behind this trio, but Barrett will look to step up for the New York Knicks and take this award when the team takes the court for the season opener.
