A pick long mocked to the New Orleans Pelicans in Daily Knicks’ mock drafts, Bol Bol moves to a different spot and a different team in the 2019 NBA Draft. It is an appealing destination for him, too, after missing most of the season with a foot injury.
The Hawks acquired this pick from the 2018 Luka Doncic trade with the Dallas Mavericks on draft night. It was only to convey if it landed outside of the top five which, of course, it did. That also impacted the New York Knicks, as they will now receive Dallas’ 2021 first-round pick and the protected 2023 first-round pick.
By joining Atlanta, Bol can take his time to return. This is an organization in no hurry to compete. Like previous top prospects coming off injuries, he may sit for a while, and if this franchise went ultra conservative, they can sit him for the entire 2019-20 season.
Bol’s teased talents were as a rim-running, shot-blocking center at Oregon. His 7-foot-2 frame towers over most players, including those in the frontcourt. Along with the ability to stretch the floor, his skill set is as unique as any talent in this class, besides Zion Williamson.
The New York Knicks have Mitchell Robinson, thus negating the need for Bol. A matchup between these two should provide entertainment down the road.
