The Philadelphia 76ers have the spotlight on Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler, and rightfully so, but JJ Redick is almost the “lost” player of the bunch, despite a career-high season in points. It’s, of course, on a high in shot attempts, but with more damage from behind the arc.

Redick will be age 35 for the 2019-20 season, so he may not cost a lucrative multi-year deal, but skills can decline at any point as he crosses the wrong side of 30.

Still, the New York Knicks desperately need outside shooting, and Redick, if he leaves Philadelphia, can bring this as a complementary piece to the stars that sign.

The Sixers have to re-sign Butler and Harris and eventually give Simmons a long-term deal. Their money will sit with those three and Embiid, who is already locked up. That limits flexibility elsewhere, and if Redick requires eight figures to return over multiple years — with Philadelphia able to exceed the salary cap to re-sign Simmons — it may be too much.

Redick is not a star, but someone who upgrades a spotty Knicks backcourt. They still need defensive stoppers, but anything to improve the third-worst three-point percentage in the 2018-19 season.
