The Golden State Warriors potentially have a franchise-changing offseason ahead. They could lose Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant to free agency, with the latter often linked to the New York Knicks once the NBA New Year opens.
Whoever stays or leaves, though, the Warriors have found ways to add talent and deepen an already historic roster. Whether it’s long players or good outside shooters, there is always talent around their top stars.
The Warriors will have length without Durant, but more outside shooters will become necessary. Filling someone of that caliber’s shots is impossible, so finding players to make up a portion of the difference is worthwhile.
Tyler Herro joins Golden State as a spot-up shooter off Curry and can supplement Thompson off the bench. If head coach Steve Kerr wants to get creative, Curry, Thompson and Herro can play together and Draymond Green moves to power forward.
The Kentucky product might be limited to a reserve role-only, though, given his athleticism and lacking wingspan to guard players. It prevents versatility, so a limited role to shoot three-pointers is likely in his future.
The New York Knicks can use outside shooters, and it’s a position they could fill in the draft, though Herro might not be around unless they trade into the end of the first round.
