Welcome to the post-Dwyane Wade era, Miami Heat. He was not the player of old in the 2018-19 campaign, but the shoes are still massive for the next star to fill, whenever that happens for the 2012 and 2013 NBA Champions.

The Heat are capped out for the 2019 summer, so their draft pick might become their best offseason addition. With plenty of forwards and big men rostered, it is the opportunity to find another backcourt player to take Wade’s spot.

Romeo Langford’s freshman season at Indiana did not reach the high, applied expectations from the fall. He shot just 27.2 percent on three-pointers and had 2.1 turnovers to 2.3 assists, which is disparaging for this team’s best player.

However, Langford is talented enough, otherwise, to slide into the lottery and become Miami’s pick at 13th overall.

Finding shots at the rim is the New Albany, IN product’s calling card. He’ll drive, create contact and score frequently and let him get by initially, before the need to develop that three-point shot, especially as a prototypical two-guard on a team with backcourt needs.

Langford is the best backcourt player available at this point, too, so the Heat’s options are limited, unless they reach for a Tyler Herro or like Keldon Johnson more.

This is out of range for the New York Knicks, so they can look elsewhere, and higher up, for someone to supplement their point guard, whoever that will be.
