The NCAA Tournament is not only the most prestigious part of the college basketball season, but the opportunity for lesser known players to enter the public. Ja Morant, despite his rise during Murray State’s regular season, did this with a triple-double in an opening round win over Marquette.

Then, there was Belmont’ Dylan Windler, playing for a school that has mid-major credibility, but does not produce NBA talent. The 2019 NBA Draft will likely change that.

Windler had a prolific regular season in his senior year, dropping 19 double-doubles and dropping 20-point games in almost every appearance. He even had a 41-point, 12-rebound night against Morehead State.

To enter the public stratosphere, Windler had 35 points and 11 rebounds in a first-round loss to Maryland. It was on 11-for-23 shooting and 4-for-9 on three-pointers.

Windler shoots like a guard but has forward height and rebounds proficiently. It’s a unique attribute combo for someone who’s not a center. Whether these high numbers translate, or even approach, remains unknown and are probably unlikely, but a player with size that shoots well has a role on any NBA team.

The New York Knicks have Kevin Knox to do this, but it can’t hurt to add another forward to stretch the floor. For now, he should fit as a late first-round pick and available if the Knicks trade into the end of the first 30 picks.
