3. Danilo Gallinari (2008)

Yet another lottery pick who did not stick with the New York Knicks for long, Danilo Gallinari entered the NBA in 2008 as an international man of mystery. From Italy, he possessed an imposing 6-foot-10 frame for someone who played like a shooting guard.

Gallinari showcased this by his sophomore year. Rebounding from an injury-plagued rookie season that teased his future, he had 15.1 points on 38.1 percent shooting from behind the arc in Mike D’Antoni‘s fast-paced offense. This continued into year three, but it halted there on a promising Knicks team.

The former sixth pick went to the Denver Nuggets as part of a monster package for Carmelo Anthony. It’s partially why this list of lottery selections is short, as they lost the chance to choose Dario Saric and Jamal Murray.

Gallinari continued his career with the Nuggets through 2016-17. He missed a ton of time to injuries, but was a consistent scorer in the 15-to-20 point range.

By 2017-18, Gallinari was with the Los Angeles Clippers. Injuries followed him, again, but his best season just happened over the past six months, with 19.8 points on 43.3 percent shooting on three-pointers.

The Knicks did not miss on Gallinari, even with Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook and one-time MVP Derrick Rose in the top five. If he stuck around, who knows how it would have resulted.
