Cam Reddish once seemed guaranteed a spot in the top five. Maybe that still happens in the 2019 NBA Draft, but his inconsistent freshman year at Duke clouds that, while the Blue Devils barely advanced to the Sweet 16 over UCF.

The height and wingspan are there for physical potential, to become a wing at the next level. That should provide enough to entice a top-10 team, including the Washington Wizards, who traded their young wing, Otto Porter, at the deadline to the Chicago Bulls.

Trevor Ariza arrived from the Phoenix Suns, but is on an expiring contract, guaranteeing him nothing for the 2019-20 season in the nation’s capital. If the Wizards want an immediate replacement — someone to play off Bradley Beal and whenever John Wall returns — this is a player who offers upside, but only if he harnesses it at the next level.

Reddish has shot well below 40 percent for most of the season and has a questionable shot selection from long distance, where he takes about eight attempts per game to his 12 overall. Along with a high turnover rate, he can be careless with the basketball and an enigma.

Maybe that was a product of his role at Duke, but that could pose issues in the NBA, whether it’s for the Wizards, New York Knicks or another team. Otherwise, potential alone will drive his value up.
