The Philadelphia 76ers will lose their 2020 first-round pick via the Tobias Harris trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. They still project to own the 26th overall selection in 2019, however, as the result of Boston receiving the more favorable of Philadelphia and Sacramento’s first-round choices.

If the Sixers can retain Harris and Jimmy Butler, they’ll have a formidable four for the next four years. They need depth beyond them, and this team is not deep in outside shooting. Another Landry Shamet, who was traded to Los Angeles, will be difficult to find, but a combo guard like Jaylen Nowell gives them an extra ball handler in the backcourt and a player with outside range.

Nowell was one of Washington’s best shooters and helped them to a No. 1 seed in the Pac-12. They made the NCAA Tournament and lost, but it did not dim the work this sophomore guard did over the past five months.

Despite his combo guard label, Nowell struggles with turnovers — losing the ball 2.9 times to 3.1 assists per game. If he can’t improve, that likely pushes him to an undersized shooting guard role.

Nowell might not become a sure-fire first-round pick, so if he falls into the second round, and the New York Knicks eye backcourt depth, is this an option for them?
