Texas Tech watched its Big 12 Conference Tournament hopes disappear against the lowly West Virginia Mountaineers. That limited the chances to watch talents from a Top 25 team, including the rising Jarrett Culver.

Culver and the Red Raiders, as a No. 3 seed, will face Northern Kentucky in the first round. No. 3 vs. 14 matchups are not always a given in the NCAA Tournament, but the odds are for this stud sophomore receiving at least two chances to showcase himself before the 2019 NBA Draft.

Playing like a combo guard, Culver led the Texas Tech offense in 2018-19, sans Zhaire Smith, to 18.5 points and a 48.6 shooting percentage. His shooting was questionable otherwise, but a grander role might have produced this, and he won’t have the daunting task of leading an NBA offense yet.

Above-average wingspan also provides defensive upside for Culver, who can potentially hold his own on the perimeter.

Stock wise, the 20-year-old needs a strong tournament, pending he opts for the draft. Without a concrete set-up for the order of the players will go — besides one generational talent — the next few games allow him one last chance to shine for talent evaluators and make executives think of him as not just a lottery pick, but potentially in the top 10.

The New York Knicks make sense for Culver, given their need for an off-ball player to their offensive-minded point guards. If they fall to fifth or sixth, he’d be an intriguing option.
