1. Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers entered desperation mode the moment LeBron James signed. At 34-years-old, his window is short, thus accelerating Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka’s need to win to keep their jobs.

James’ absence for a groin injury has curbed everything negatively for the Lakers, exposing the team beyond their superstar in a similar fashion to how the Cleveland Cavaliers have played in the first year without him.

Part of Los Angeles’ problem stems at point guard, with injuries to Rajon Rondo and Lonzo Ball consistently depleting their depth. Ball is out with a sprained ankle into February.

Does Burke from the New York Knicks solve their problems? Maybe not. He’s below Ball and Rondo as a point guard, but provides enough as a stopgap, as injuries occur.

Burke gives the Lakers an outside shooting presence, something they’ve needed since Johnson and Pelinka assembled this team. Burke is not the sole answer to this, but he extends the floor at point guard, arguably better than Ball or Rondo.

With the Lakers in win-now mode, a second-round pick shouldn’t be a problem to send the Knicks. Maybe even two to get the job done, pending how desperate they are for roster upgrades.

Who can the New York Knicks send Trey Burke to? Can they receive more than one second-round pick in return? Let’s find out before the Feb. 7 deadline.
