2. Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns have searched for a point guard since Steve Nash left. Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas, Isaiah Canaan, Brandon Knight and Tyler Ulis all took part in this role since and none of them stuck, whether it was poor production, team-imposed trades or “I don’t wanna be here.”

In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Suns selected Elie Okobo. While only 21-years-old with upside, he’s shooting just 38.3 percent and 31.0 on three-pointers for 6.1 points per game and 2.3 assists.

If there’s a need for a stopgap that removes Okobo from the starting lineup, Burke can fill that role for a future second-round pick, potentially Brooklyn’s 2021 selection. It’s only protected for picks 31-to-35, so it’s likely to convey if the New York Knicks acquire it.

Burke is likely not a long-term option for Phoenix. He’s only 26, but they can find superior options in 2019 free agency or via trade next summer. That can be saved for 2019-20 improvement to take this franchise forward.

They’re obviously not in position for the postseason, so it doesn’t make sense to acquire someone that hurts their angle for the No. 1 pick. Burke is an improvement over Okobo but as a streaky, offensive-minded player. The defense isn’t there, and that might not matter in another down season for the Suns.
