Knicks Trade Rumors: Five potential destinations for Trey Burke
3. Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have become the rich that get richer. They signed Kevin Durant in 2016 and won consecutive NBA championships with him. DeMarcus Cousins joined on the mid-level exception last summer and made them the favorites to go back-to-back-to-back in the Finals.
So, why not add to the mix?
Behind Stephen Curry, the Warriors only have Quinn Cook who shoots well (47.5 percent and 41.7 percent on three-pointers) and arguably doesn’t necessitate another backcourt mate. But, if they desire a veteran presence, Burke makes sense.
Golden State has their own second-round pick to send the New York Knicks for Burke. It’s a luxury selection, even if it’s at No. 60. They find players to fit around the superstars by the season, including Jordan Bell and Alfonzo McKinnie. In past seasons, Festus Ezeli and Brandon Rush were among the supporting cast.
Burke’s ability to spread the floor allows for a seamless transition behind Curry or next to him. Even beside Klay Thompson.
The Knicks can enhance Golden State’s chances for a title with an extra bench piece, while taking back a draft selection. It may not convey into anything grand, but at least gives New York something to work with, rather than losing Burke for nothing.
