Knicks Trade Rumors: Five potential destinations for Trey Burke
4. Brooklyn Nets
The New York Knicks trading with their crosstown rivals, the Brooklyn Nets? That seems as unheard of like the New York Mets and New York Yankees, the New York Jets and New York Knicks and the New York Islanders and New York Rangers making a transaction.
As the Nets rise, would the Knicks help them? At 27-23, they sit sixth in the Eastern Conference, just one spot behind the Boston Celtics. Led by D’Angelo Russell, they’re quickly rising.
One of their mainstays, Spencer Dinwiddie, opted for thumb surgery, per ESPN. That will sideline him for three-to-six weeks, leaving Brooklyn with another injury in their backcourt.
As a temporary fill-in until the end of February or early March, Burke can back up Russell and work with Shabazz Napier, the other reserve point guard that shoots 39.7 percent from the field.
While also inefficient, Burke provides an option for scoring in bunches, potentially working off Russell and Napier in smaller lineups. It’s small-ball at its finest, but something that can work if they like Burke as a shooting guard.
If the Knicks willingly deal with the Nets, this is as logical a destination for Burke. Will they make the call to exchange a second-round pick?
