Knicks 2019 Draft Analysis: Grading the six best back-up plans
4. Ja Morant
The sophomore from Murray State has managed to rise up draft boards with his crazy stat line this season, but Ja would be a strange pick for the New York Knicks roster going into next year.
Yes, neither Frank or Mudiay is the dominant PG that every outlet will tell you the Knicks need in order to succeed in the modern NBA, but it’s not a sure bet Ja is either. Though he has put up an impressive 24.3 points and 10.6 assists on over 50 percent shooting from the field, he has done so against mostly weak opposition, only facing one ranked team in the top 10 this season (which, admittedly, he put up 25 against).
Morant has shown to have an impressive scoring ability and some equally impressive athleticism, but it will take until the tournament rolls around in March for us to see if Morant has what it takes to compete against the highest level of competition, and potentially at the NBA level.
