1. Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings have maintained position to acquire larger salaries with their $11 million in cap space and a bevy of expiring contracts. It’s why they were contenders for Enes Kanter‘s $18.6 million salary and what makes them the most intriguing suitor for Hardaway.

A great fit does not exist in Sacramento for Hardaway. Buddy Hield has developed into a solid shooting guard and Bogdan Bogdanovic is on the rise as a perimeter scorer. It somewhat takes the need for another backcourt scorer away, especially with De’Aaron Fox‘s rise as a sophomore.

However, if the Kings eye competitiveness amid a chaotic Western Conference which they sit 1.5 games out of its playoff picture, they can acquire someone to push them forward.

Hardaway may bite into some of the backcourt minutes, but he’s an offensive upgrade over Iman Shumpert, who can return to the Knicks in a potential deal. Defensively is another story, but there’s more long-term upside in New York’s leading scorer.

If not that, Shumpert can revert to a bench role while Zach Randolph‘s $11 million salary, while he does not play, can join the Knicks.

The Kings will remain a top suitor for the Knicks with almost anyone they want to trade. With cap space and future picks to move, they’re as interesting as anyone to take someone off Perry and Steve Mills’ hands.
