New York Knicks: 2019 NBA Draft prospects who make losing tolerable
2. RJ Barrett
Finally, the second of Duke’s freshmen trio arrives. RJ Barrett sits as a potential top-two pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, someone the New York Knicks may not have the chance to select if they land lower than two — maybe even first.
Barrett entered 2018-19 as the favorite to land first, until his superstar teammate overtook the picture. That’s not indicative of the Canadian’s performance, though, averaging 23.8 points per game on 46.8 percent shooting. He adds 3.8 assists as a playmaker.
There’s dynamic potential at his size, 6-foot-7, and ability to handle the ball. It’s James Harden-esque, who seems to become the comparison for anyone with a good handle and scoring ability at shooting guard, although it may be true with Barrett.
A long road exists before that comes to fruition, but this is an exciting player nonetheless.
If the New York Knicks assume the position to select Barrett, he can redefine this team’s scoring pecking order, climbing near or at its top. It’s the shot-creating, do-it-all player needed to play next to Porzingis and take pressure off Knox.
With the potential to top 20 points per game in the NBA, Barrett is someone for the Knicks to wait for. He possesses superstar potential, which, in the modern-day league, greatly benefits this roster.
