2. Lottery luck

New York currently sits with the second-worst record in the NBA at 9-28. Unfortontauley, the losing trend is likely to continue, but as is the purpose of the draft, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This season, the “tankathon” for all the cellar dwellers is centered on two players, one in particular. The duo from Duke, R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson, are the consensus top two picks no matter the teams selecting, with Williamson providing athletic gifts never before seen on the basketball court.

With changes to the lottery odds beginning this season, the three worst teams shall all have an equal shot at the top pick, and each team thereafter has higher odds of moving up in the draft order. This bodes well for teams ranging in the 5-10 spot, but not for a Knicks squad that could possibly wind up with the worst record in the league.

Fans remember the heartbreak that came when deputy commissioner Mark Tatum flashed the Knicks logo with the fourth pick of the 2015 Draft NBA. All would work out with the selection of Kristaps Porzingis, but there was certainly a period of unrest among New York’s faithful.

Hopefully, this time around will prove more fruitful for the Knicks in the form of one of these two Blue Devils, a reward of sorts for all the misery they’ve caused fans to endure for what seems like the longest of time.
