4. Figure out who does not fit
This developmental season has provided the easiest path for the New York Knicks to maneuver. With youth, inexperience and flawed veterans across the roster, it placed everyone in a battle for playing time and to be part of this organization’s future.
It’s still somewhat early in 2018-19, but soon enough, the halfway point of the season will arrive. That should end a grace period and allow for New York to figure out who fits beyond 2018-19.
It’s not an overnight decision, but with seven players set to hit free agency (eight with Lance Thomas’ team option), the Knicks will soon reach a breaking point to decide who they want to move forward with.
This might not sound like one “resolution,” but multiple, if anything, with how many players the team may lose or have to pony up money to keep.
New York probably will not keep everyone, especially if they want to factor into other players that hit the open market. That may even include those who have produced well, including Mudiay and Vonleh if they price themselves out.
There are decisions for the Knicks to make by the summer. For now, they have the chance to evaluate and see who stands a chance at staying.
